Bogwood Ironcrest™ – Handmade O1 Tool Steel Hatchet

The Bogwood Ironcrest™ combines hand-forged high-carbon tool steel with the deep natural character of ancient bog oak, creating a distinctive 14-inch hatchet with traditional craftsmanship and collector appeal.

The hatchet is hand forged from 1/4-inch-thick O1 high-carbon tool steel and features a 4-inch cutting edge with a hollow grind. A hammermark finish preserves the forged character of the steel and gives the head a rugged, traditional appearance.

The handle is crafted from ancient bog oak and shaped with a pronounced crow's-beak profile designed to fill the hand. A nickel-silver guard sits above a combination of black, aluminum, copper, and fossil walrus ivory spacers, creating a layered transition between the steel and wood.

At 14 inches overall, the Bogwood Ironcrest™ has a substantial yet manageable profile. A fitted leather sheath is included for protecting the cutting edge during storage and transport.

Care & Maintenance

O1 is a high-carbon tool steel and should be kept clean and dry to help prevent corrosion. After use, wipe the steel thoroughly and apply a light coating of suitable blade oil or protective wax.

Do not leave the hatchet exposed to moisture or store it while wet.

Keep the ancient bog oak handle away from prolonged water exposure, excessive heat, and harsh cleaning chemicals. A suitable wood conditioner or wax may be used periodically to maintain the handle.

Avoid long-term storage in direct contact with a damp leather sheath because leather can retain moisture.

Because natural and handmade materials are used, variations in wood grain, coloration, hammer marks, and finish are part of the individual character of the piece.
