Bighorn Trailcrest™ – Hand-Forged 80CrV2 Steel Hatchet

The Bighorn Trailcrest™ is a distinctive handmade hatchet combining thick 80CrV2 steel with natural Big Horn Sheep and Moose Antler accents for a rugged, traditional outdoor appearance.

The head features a 2 7/8" × 4 1/4" hand-forged bit made from substantial 3/8-inch 80CrV2 steel. A flat-ground cutting profile is paired with a traditional hammermark finish that preserves the forged character of the steel.

The handle is particularly distinctive, combining black fiber, copper, green Micarta, Big Horn Sheep material, and horsehide. A solid copper guard provides a warm contrast between the forged steel and layered handle construction, while a Moose Antler butt completes the design.

Measuring approximately 12.25 inches overall, the Bighorn Trailcrest™ offers a compact hatchet profile with strong collector appeal and traditional handcrafted character.

A fitted brown sheath with copper rivets is included for protecting the cutting edge during storage and transport.

Care & Maintenance

Keep the 80CrV2 steel clean and completely dry after use. As this is a high-carbon alloy steel, periodically applying a thin coat of suitable blade oil or protective wax can help reduce oxidation.

Do not leave the hatchet exposed to rain, standing water, or other prolonged moisture.

Keep the natural handle materials away from excessive moisture, heat, and harsh cleaning chemicals. Periodic conditioning appropriate for the individual natural materials may help preserve their appearance.

Store the hatchet in a clean, dry environment. Avoid prolonged storage in a damp sheath because trapped moisture can contribute to corrosion.

Natural materials such as horn, antler, and hide can vary in color, pattern, texture, and appearance, giving individual handmade pieces their own character.
