Ironburl Heritage™ – Hand-Forged O1 Steel Hatchet

The Ironburl Heritage™ is a compact handcrafted hatchet combining hand-forged O1 high-carbon tool steel with the rich natural grain of premium desert ironwood burl.

Forged from 3/16-inch-thick O1 tool steel, the hatchet features a 3 1/8-inch cutting bit with a hollow grind. Traditional hammermarks and a forced-patina blued finish give the steel a rugged, handcrafted character.

The handle is crafted from premium desert ironwood burl, known for its distinctive natural grain and deep coloration. A blued steel guard is soldered into place above black fiber and aluminum spacers, while an aluminum pin completes the handle construction.

At approximately 11.75 inches overall, the Ironburl Heritage™ offers a compact traditional hatchet profile with strong collector appeal.

A custom leather sheath is included to protect the cutting edge during storage and transport.

Care & Maintenance

O1 high-carbon tool steel should be kept clean and dry to help prevent corrosion. After use, wipe the steel thoroughly and apply a thin coating of suitable blade oil or protective wax.

Avoid leaving the hatchet exposed to water or prolonged moisture.

Keep the natural desert ironwood burl handle away from excessive moisture, extreme heat, and harsh cleaning chemicals. A suitable wood conditioner or wax may be used periodically to maintain its appearance.

For extended storage, keep the hatchet in a dry environment and avoid leaving the steel inside a damp leather sheath.

Because natural burl wood and handmade steel are used, variations in grain, coloration, hammermarks, patina, and finish are part of the individual character of each piece.
